Uno dos tres chocolate

I don't spend much time with children, so I learned a lot during the ten days when my niece and nephew, age 6 and 4, came to visit last month. For example:

It's easy to confuse similar words in Spanish and English, such as when counting. Uno, dos, tres, chocolate. I mean cuatro.

Spanish chocolate milk very is good, by the way. Can I have some more, please?

Spanish ham is startlingly yummy, and you can even get it as a pizza topping. Wow!

Things close by are usually better than things far away. A lizard on a rock is better too look at than a picturesque view. Things that you can touch are better than things you can just look at, but those lizards move fast. Things that you can climb on are best of all. Especially if they're tall. Even if they're not meant to be climbed on. I'll be careful!

Things that move are better than things that stand still. Things that you can ride on are best of all. Even if you hadn't planned to use that particular mode of transport. Can we go on it, please?

The more kinds of transportation, the more fun. Including funiculars, which have the word "fun" right in them, which logically leads to the question: What's an icular?

Seriously, I can't remember when I laughed so much and so often.

Or when I've experienced such constant, total, energetic, unrelenting spontaneity in a world of magic and imagination and exciting discovery.

Retiro Park has more playgrounds than I had ever realized, and each one is different. Therefore, each one must be visited and thoroughly explored.

Did you know that Barcelona has a Chocolate Museum? It has the best chocolate milk in Spain.

Mountains can be a difficult abstract concept until you visit them for the first time.

Afternoon naps are refreshing, especially for the adults. But I'm not sleepy!

It's always fun to practice Spanish. "How do you say 'blue' in Spanish?"
"Azul."
"What's the word for 'red'?"
"Rojo."
"What's 'yellow'?"
"Paella."

I almost cried when I said goodbye at the airport.
